In a meaningful intersection of educational missions, J.F. Ingram State Technical College welcomed students from Samford University for a comprehensive tour of their Main Campus last week.
The visit began with discussions centered on Ingram's innovative approach to technical education within a correctional setting, highlighting how the institution works to develop responsible citizens through hands-on vocational training.
Samford students engaged directly with both faculty members and student leaders across various technical programs, gaining first-hand insight into the college's operations and impact.
The visit carried special significance due to Samford University's historical connection to John Howard, the renowned 18th-century social reformer who championed prison reform throughout England and Europe. Howard's legacy of compassion and belief in rehabilitation continues to influence correctional education today.
"This tour exemplified the transformative power of education when paired with compassion and reform principles," said ISTC President Annette Funderburk. The exchange between the two institutions demonstrated how educational partnerships can bridge different worlds while working toward the common goal of positive societal change.
