Occupational Data

Marine mechanics and technicians inspect, service and repair electrical and mechanical systems of inboard or inboard-outboard boat engines and related accessories. They generally work in well-ventilated repair shops, but sometimes make onsite repair calls, which may require working in challenging conditions. Most work full time, and are busiest during the spring and summer when equipment use is the highest. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for marine mechanics and service technicians was $46,730 in May 2021. Employment in-field is projected to grow approximately nine percent from 2020 to 2030, a rate comparable to all occupations.
