We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone for J.F. Ingram State Technical College and our community. Last month, Charles Phillips from Elmore County became the first participant in the Pathway Home for Alabama's Returning Citizens (PARC) program to transition into the post-release phase. This achievement marks a new chapter in his journey, and we hope it inspires others to follow in his footsteps.
About PARC
The PARC initiative is a groundbreaking partnership involving the Alabama Department of Commerce-Workforce Development Division, the Alabama Department of Corrections, and J.F. Ingram State Technical College. The primary aim of PARC is to reduce recidivism rates and decrease instances of recurring criminal activity within our communities. By providing comprehensive support and training, PARC helps justice-involved individuals successfully reintegrate into society.
Program Components
PARC offers a multifaceted approach to support returning citizens:
Work Readiness Training: Equipping participants with essential skills needed for today's workforce.
Occupational Training: Providing practical, job-specific skills that enhance employability.
Pre-Release and Post-Release Case Management: Ensuring continuous support and guidance throughout the transition process.
Support Services: Offering resources such as counseling and mentorship to facilitate successful reintegration.
Job Placement Assistance: Helping participants secure employment opportunities after release.
Serving Alabama's Prisons
PARC is currently available to eligible participants at three Alabama prisons: Elmore Correctional Facility, Julia Tutwiler Prison, and Staton Correctional Facility. By focusing efforts on these locations, PARC aims to create positive outcomes and foster sustainable change within the justice system.
We are excited about the potential impact of PARC and look forward to supporting more individuals like Charles Phillips on their journey to a productive and fulfilling life post-release.
