Commercial Truck Driving

Commercial Truck Driving (CDL) is a short-term non-credit program combining classroom theory, state-of-the-art driving simulators and hands-on learning behind the wheel.  Students can earn a Class “A” or Class “B” Alabama Commercial Driver License with endorsements.  The program is designed to help students acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to prepare for successful entry-level employment in the trucking industry.

Occupational Data
Commercial truck drivers are an essential part of the economy, responsible for the safe and timely transport of items from one location to another. They work individually or in small teams and their schedule can require them to be away from home for days or weeks at a time. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, median annual wage for heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers was $54,320 in May 2023. Employment in-field is projected to grow approximately six percent from 2020 to 2030, a rate comparable to all occupations.

Electives may be offered to meet a student’s personal educational goals or for instructional purposes.
