Mrs. Mary Sue McClurkin

Second Vice Chair

Mary Sue McClurkin was elected in 1998 to the Alabama House of Representatives, 43rd District, and is a native of Abbeville, Alabama. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Huntingdon College in 1969, and a Master’s Degree in Education from Auburn University in 1971.

Representative McClurkin currently serves as Vice Chair of the Ways and Means Committee, Chair of the Education Policy Committee, and the Jefferson County and Shelby Legislation Committee.

Representative McClurkin is the owner of McClurkin Enterprises, a property and land management company. Former owners of Alabama Butane Co., Inc., with offices in Birmingham, Lincoln, Headland, Abbeville, and Wilsonville. Alabama Butane Co., Inc. is also a distributor of industrial gases in the southeast. She is a past President of the Alabama Propane Gas Association, past Chairman for the Alabama Propane Gas Association’s State and Federal Governmental Affairs Committee, and has served as a Congressional Liaison for the Alabama Propane Gas Association. Mrs. McClurkin is active in her community, and served as Executive Director of the Pelham Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Riverchase Business Brokers. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Business Council of Alabama, Board of Mid-Alabama Cancer Society, Board of Directors of the Alabama Green Industry Training, and Vice Chairman for the State Health Coordinating Council. Past community participation includes: Board of Trustees for the Baptist Health System, Board of Directors for Pediatric Rehab, Board of Directors for Briarwood Christian School, Vice Chairman for the Shelby Medical Center Board of Trustees, and Chairman for the Shelby County Economic Development.

Representative McClurkin is married to Van McClurkin, and has three sons: Burt, Daniel, and Ben. Mr. and Mrs. McClurkin have three grandsons: Benjamin, Luke, and David. The couple currently resides in Pelham, Alabama, and attends Briarwood Presbyterian Church.
